I always felt that “can we be friends?” thing felt like a starting quarterback suddenly becoming a backup. Even if there isn’t a new starting quarterback. You’re on the back-burner at best; you’re in limbo, waiting for the trap door to fall out below you at worst. Who wants that? I read this and thought back to all the times I heard that “I want us to be friends” crap and felt bad for grousing over a consolation prize. Except, I’m better than that. We all are.
